I'm not certain of this, but I suspect that it was a painting of Ilya Repin's that inspired Ayn Rand's comment in "Art and Sense of Life" about a painting of a beautiful woman with a cold sore on her lip. The painting is "Portrait Of Baroness Varvara Ikskul Von Hildenbandt," which Repin painted in 1889.
